Law Office of Brian T. Richards

Brian Richards, Immigration Attorney

For over 27 years, Brian T. Richards has dedicated his legal career to helping families with U.S. immigration law. As the founder of the Law Office of Brian T. Richards, he focuses exclusively on family immigration matters, working closely with U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents to bring their loved ones to the United States or preserve their lawful status within it.

Brian’s clients come from all over the world, but they all share one common goal: keeping their families together. He has extensive experience with a wide range of family immigration services, including family-based petitions, DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) applications, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) filings, Removal of Conditions for married couples, green card renewals, Advance Parole and reentry permits for LPRs, and Naturalization filings.

At the core of Brian’s practice is a personal, compassionate approach to the law. He believes that immigration representation should be hands-on and responsive, which is why he remains directly available for all client calls and communication. His clients consistently describe him as thorough, approachable, and genuinely invested in their success. With a nearly perfect success rate across thousands of cases, Brian takes pride in helping individuals and families achieve their immigration goals with clarity and confidence.

Precision, Experience, and Compassion

Immigration law is constantly changing, and Brian works diligently to stay ahead of evolving policies and regulations. Over the years, he has successfully guided clients through some of the most challenging periods in U.S. immigration history. His attention to detail and commitment to staying up to date with every relevant development allow him to provide informed, effective strategies tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.

Whether helping someone renew a green card, apply for citizenship, or file a family-based petition, Brian approaches every case with a deep sense of purpose and urgency. He understands the emotional and practical weight that immigration cases carry, and he works tirelessly to ensure every client receives the guidance and advocacy they need.

A Background in Education and Service

Before establishing his law practice, Brian cultivated a strong foundation in education. From 1992 to 1995, he served as an adjunct professor at Baker College, and from 1997 to 2020, he taught at Lansing Community College. His time as an educator sharpened his ability to explain complex topics clearly and connect with people from diverse backgrounds—skills that have proven invaluable in his legal career.

Brian earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State University in 1992 and went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1997. That same year, he was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan. He has also been a long-standing member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), remaining active in the organization throughout his 27 years in practice.

A Life Grounded in Faith, Family, and Community

Although Brian now calls Michigan home, he spent his early years living in five different states before his family settled there when he was 12 years old. This experience gave him a unique appreciation for what it means to search for a place to call home—something he connects with deeply in his work with immigrants and their families.

A lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, Brian has played baseball or softball every season since he was six years old. In the off-season, he stays active by walking 18,000 to 20,000 steps each day and hiking nature trails wherever he can find a scenic overlook.

Brian met his wife, Kris, while they were students at Grand Valley State University. The two will celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary in 2025. Together, they have raised three children—including a set of twins—and enjoy exploring the U.S. through travel, particularly visits to National Parks.

Faith and family are the foundations of Brian’s life and the guiding principles of his practice. He and Kris are deeply involved in their church community, where they have mentored 28 couples through a pre-marriage and marriage enrichment program. Brian credits his strong Christian faith and his commitment to family as the primary motivations behind his work. For him, immigration law is not just a profession—it’s a calling to support, protect, and serve families during one of the most important journeys of their lives.

A Practice With Heart

What sets Brian Richards apart is not only his deep knowledge of immigration law, but his unwavering dedication to the people behind each case. He understands that every application represents a story of love, of family, of hope for a better future, and he treats each one with the care and respect it deserves.

With over two decades of experience and a reputation for integrity, diligence, and kindness, Brian continues to be a trusted advocate for families seeking to build their lives in the United States.

If you or someone you love is navigating the immigration process, Brian Richards is ready to provide the legal guidance and personal support you need every step of the way.
